About Gene Gregory
Gene Gregory is a self-taught oil painter and a traditionalist. As a lifelong Texan, his fondness for drawing developed in early childhood, and he has painted since his teen years. The Texas landscape, reflected in many of his early paintings, is a favorite scene. From the bluebonnets of the southern hill country to the rustic barns of the northeast farmland; from the horses, windmills and rolling hills which are representative of west Texas to the piney woods of the east is translated with great emotion onto canvas. Hiya Gene, From the unbuttoned cuff to the parted shirt above the navel, everything about this painting says a down and out beggar. It is a very moody painting that even has a spiritual undertone with that face and beard. I love it Gene. The only thing I would have changed about it would be the positioning of the head at the top of the canvas. It makes him appear tall and a little intimidating. I would have placed the top of his head near the center of the canvas so as to make him appear smaller and less threatening. Other than that, this painting is an attention grabber and moves me emotionally which, I feel, is exactly what you wanted to accomplish. Bravo Gene.
